Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

Requires inspection of all Pacific Scientific lap belt assemblies (P/N 1107177) to check the material of the retractor shaft by its anodise colour: gold = acceptable, dull battleship grey = must be replaced. Inspections must be done before the Maintenance Release issued after 30 June 1988 and any defective shaft replaced within 5 hours time in service.

Affects aircraft operators and maintenance organisations using these belts; it imposes inspection and replacement costs and relies on a visual check. The AD responds to shafts that have failed below the TSO C22f load requirement (see Requirement, Compliance, Background).
