Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This directive orders aircraft owners and operators to modify specific Securaiglon passenger seat belts (previously sold as L'Aiglon) to fix a dangerous mechanical defect where the buckle jams in the locked position.

Who it affects: Anyone operating aircraft—both helicopters and aeroplanes (planes)—fitted with these specific safety belts, which are identified in the manufacturer's Service Bulletin TRW No. 01.

What must be done: The seat belts must be modified according to the manufacturer's instructions (Service Bulletin TRW RAPA SA. SB No. 01) before 31 January 1985.

Why it matters: A jammed buckle could trap passengers in their seats during an emergency, preventing evacuation. While earlier directives addressed helicopters that had these belts fitted at the factory, this directive also covers belts that may have been installed on other aircraft afterwards as replacements or upgrades.
