Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Directive requires specified AlliedSignal VN 411B VHF navigation receivers to have Modification 21 installed (per the cited service bulletin) and bans installing receivers without that modification. It applies to listed part numbers, serial-number ranges and modification statuses and is effective 12 August 1999.

The FAA reported interference from FM radio that can distort navigation audio and affect course; the Directive aims to prevent that. Aircraft operators must pay for and install the modification within 90 days or at the next repair/replacement, imposing a compliance cost and scheduling requirement.
