Background: Several operators have reported random instances of erroneous DME indications, the affected units failing to process and update distance outputs. Additionally, some units have been reported as establishing a continuous restart mode upon application of power. These conditions are known colloquially as sleeping’ or deaf’ modes of operation. Compliance with this Directive will effectively prevent units from displaying these characteristics.
