Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive — a mandatory safety order issued by the aviation regulator requiring specific hardware changes to aircraft radio equipment.

Who it affects: Owners or operators of Sunair HF (high-frequency) radio transceivers. Specifically, models ASB-60 and ASB-125 that contain power amplifier part number PA-1010B with serial numbers 8366 or below (for 28-volt systems) or 5383 or below (for 14-volt systems).

What must be done:

Modify the equipment following the manufacturer's instructions in Sunair Service Bulletin No. 60/125-001 (dated April 1974).
Permanently mark the equipment by adding "-001" next to the PA-1010B connector so future inspectors can see the modification has been completed.

Deadline: The work had to be completed before 31 March 1977.

Why it matters: This prevents potential failures in critical aircraft communication systems. HF radios are essential for long-distance communication, especially over oceans or remote areas where other signals don't reach.
