Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This AD requires owners/operators of AN/ARC/1 series VHF transceivers to modify the radios so second-harmonic radiation is suppressed to at least 40 dB below the main transmission. It affects aircraft using these vintage military-style transceivers because excess harmonic emissions can interfere with other radio communications and create safety risks. Compliance was required by 31 July 1966.

Amdt 2

VHF Transceiver - Modification 6/66

Applicability: All AN/ARC/1 series VHF Transceivers.

Requirement: Modify the equipment to reduce second harmonic radiation from the transmitter to a level at least 40 db. below the carrier power at the fundamental frequency.

Note: Tests carried out on several units indicate that at least 25 db. additional attenuation of a second harmonic power will be necessary to ensure a total attenuation of 40 db. in all cases.

Compliance: Before 31 July 1966.
