Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This airworthiness directive requires owners/operators of Robinson R44 helicopters (serials 0001–0330) to remove certain aluminium oil-line elbow fittings that join the oil cooler to the engine and replace them with specified steel elbows. The change is mechanical: swap the identified aluminium elbows for the steel equivalents.

Operators must complete the replacement within 50 flight hours of the directive’s effective date (21 May 1998). The measure aims to prevent oil loss and engine failure; operators bear the parts, labour and scheduling costs and must record the work.
