What this does

This Airworthiness Directive is a compulsory safety order for owners of specific Polish-built agricultural aircraft (PZL M18 Dromader). It mandates inspection and replacement of faulty aileron hinges.

Who it affects

Owners and operators of PZL M18 and M18A aircraft with serial numbers 1Z 00-101 through to 1Z 021-07.

Key requirements

Inspect: Check aileron hinges at the next maintenance visit after 9 August 1990, then every 50 flight hours
Replace: If hinges are cracked or bent (deformed), swap them before flying again
Permanent fix: Installing manufacturer-modified hinge assemblies ends the inspection requirement

Why it exists

The manufacturer reported cracks developing in these hinges. Since ailerons control the aircraft's roll, hinge failure could cause loss of control. This directive prevents accidents by catching the defect early.
