Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it does: This safety directive imposes immediate operating restrictions on specific aircraft engines to prevent mechanical damage.

Who it affects: Operators of aircraft fitted with Pratt & Whitney R2000 series piston engines (the R-2000 Twin Wasp).

The requirements:

Avoid the danger zone: Do not run the engine at steady speeds between 2310 and 2510 RPM (revolutions per minute). This range likely causes harmful vibrations or mechanical stress.
Mark the gauge: The RPM indicator (tachometer) must have a red marking (an arc or block) over the 2310-2510 range to give pilots an immediate visual warning.
Install a placard: Place a warning sign next to the RPM gauge alerting pilots against prolonged operation in this restricted range.
Alternative compliance: Instead of the above, operators may follow Airworthiness Notice 106.1.12.4.7.1 (an alternative technical standard).

When it takes effect: Immediately ("Forthwith").
