This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of Pratt & Whitney PT6A-60A and PT6A-65B engines fitted with Woodward propeller governor assembly P/N 8210-212H to replace them with P/N 8210-310 or have them reworked, within six months (Applicability; Requirement; Compliance; Note 2). CASA’s delegate issued the AD under CAR 1998 subregulation 39.1(1) after incidents of asymmetric thrust on landing were traced to a governor failing to move to the ground idle pitch (opening paragraph; Background).

Background: There have been incidents of asymmetric thrust during landing on aircraft fitted with PT6A-60A engines. Asymmetric thrust on landing poses a safety hazard to personnel and/or equipment. Investigation showed that the asymmetric thrust was caused by one of the two propeller governors not moving to the ground idle pitch setting.
