Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority requiring specific aircraft propeller blades to be replaced.

Who it affects: Owners or operators of aircraft fitted with McCauley propeller model B2A34C205/90DHA-4 bearing blade serial numbers DA001 to DA040.

What you must do: Replace the affected blades following the instructions in McCauley Service Bulletin No. 164.

Why: Blades manufactured in 1983 were produced without "shot peening" — a manufacturing process that strengthens metal by blasting it with small particles. Without this treatment, blades could develop dangerous weaknesses.

Deadline: You must complete the replacement before the propeller accumulates 1,250 total flight hours or before 31 November 1988 (likely a typographical error for 30 November), whichever comes first.
