AD/PHZL/86 Amdt 1 - Propeller Hub Cracks - CANCELLED

What this is: The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has cancelled an Australian safety rule about cracks in Hartzell variable pitch propellers.

What used to be required: The previous rule (AD/PHZL/86) required owners and operators to inspect Hartzell propeller hubs for cracks.

Why it's been cancelled: The Australian rule has been replaced by an American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety directive (FAA AD 2009-22-03). Since October 2009, American safety rules for aircraft parts designed in the US automatically apply in Australia under regulation CASR Part 39.001A (the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations).

Who this affects: Owners and operators of aircraft fitted with Hartzell variable pitch propellers.

What you need to do: Follow the requirements in the FAA directive instead of the old Australian rule. The cancellation took effect on 4 February 2010.
