Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it is: This is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) — a mandatory safety order issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) under the Civil Aviation Regulations.

What it requires: If you own or operate an aircraft fitted with a De Havilland variable-pitch propeller (specifically model 3HFB, also designated 3/1000/2), you must inspect the propeller hub every time you perform a daily or overnight inspection on the aircraft.

Why it matters: Propeller hub failures can cause loss of aircraft control. This rule ensures potential cracks or mechanical defects are detected during routine maintenance before they become dangerous.

Technical details: The directive doesn't describe the inspection method here — it refers operators to specific technical documents (De Havilland Technical News Sheet CT(104) No. 31 or Airworthiness Notice 107.1.4.5.6.2) for the exact procedures to follow.
