Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive applies to all Parachutes de France Techno 240 reserve parachutes. It lowers the allowed user+equipment weight to 100 kg, caps pack opening speed at 130 kts (preventing “free fly” practice), and makes owners replace slider and steering lines, update canopy markings and packing records, and adopt a new owner’s manual and packing procedure.

CASA (by delegate) mandates these technical fixes and record changes for safety. Owners/operators pay for parts, re-packing and compliance; the AD enforces specific actions and deadlines under CASR subreg 39.1(1).

Background: A control test by the manufacturer revealed that the maximum operating conditions as defined in the current applicable regulation, were not achieved. This could lead to a hazardous situation at maximum operating conditions.

Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new DGAC AD, which introduces a service bulletin and owner’s manual from the manufacturer with certain required actions.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 16 July 2003.
