What it used to require: The original directive (AD/PA-46/4) mandated a one-time replacement of specific rivets located in the wing and where the wing meets the fuselage. Owners had to complete this work within 100 hours of flying time after March 1995, following instructions in Piper Service Bulletin No. 796B.

What happens now: As of 12 March 2009, that rivet replacement requirement no longer applies. Owners do not need to comply with the previous directive, and the safety issue that prompted the original rule is no longer considered a regulatory concern.
