Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A safety order for owners of specific Piper PA-42 Cheyenne III aircraft (serial numbers 42-7800001 to 42-8001106).

What you must do: Replace the retaining pins on the landing gear upper bearings, and inspect (and replace if necessary) the upper bearings themselves. You must follow the technical steps in Piper Service Bulletin No. 779A.

Why it matters: If these retaining pins fail, the landing gear piston and wheels could drop down uncontrollably during flight—a serious safety risk.

When to comply: You must complete this work within 100 hours of flying time after 31 October 1985.
