Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive requires owners/operators of Piper Cheyenne III (PA-42, S/N 42-5527001 and later) to inspect or replace the attachment bolt on the main landing gear actuator per Piper Service Bulletin 885. Timing depends on flight hours as of 11 Aug 1988: comply before the next maintenance release if >500 hours then every 500 hours, or before reaching 500 total hours if <500, then every 500 hours thereafter. It addresses reported bolt failures that can prevent gear extension/retraction, posing a serious safety risk.
