What this document does

This document officially cancels a previous aviation safety rule (Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-42/16) that applied to Piper PA-42 Cheyenne III aircraft.

What the old rule required The original directive required owners or operators to inspect the control column control chain retainer clips—small but critical parts that secure the control chains in the cockpit—before their next scheduled maintenance check after August 1988. The inspection had to follow Piper Service Bulletin No. 877.

What changed As of 9 April 2009, aircraft owners and maintenance engineers no longer need to perform this specific inspection. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has determined this safety requirement is no longer necessary, likely because the affected aircraft have aged out of the risk period or alternative safety measures are now in place.
