Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this requires Owners and operators of Piper PA-42 Cheyenne III aircraft must inspect and clear the drain holes located in the tail section (tailcone) of the plane, following the manufacturer's instructions in Piper Service Bulletin No. 857.

Why it matters If debris blocks these drain holes, water can accumulate and freeze. This ice can jam the control cables and pulleys that operate the aircraft's flight controls, potentially causing a loss of control.

Who must comply Anyone operating any model of Piper PA-42 (Cheyenne III) series aeroplanes.

When to do it By the earlier of:

The next scheduled inspection for Maintenance Release (the regular safety check required to keep the aircraft registered), or
Within 50 hours of flight time after 4 June 1987
