Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this means for aircraft owners:

If you own or operate a Piper PA-36 (Pawnee Brave) aircraft, you must have the brackets that attach the engine to the airframe inspected for dangerous cracks.

What you must do:

First Inspection: Check the engine mount attach brackets for cracks within 100 hours of flight time after 31 January 1984.
Keep Checking: Repeat this inspection every 100 hours of flight time until the modification is done.
Fix It: Install the approved Piper modification kit (Part Number 763-877) to permanently correct the defect.

Why this matters: These brackets hold the engine to the plane. Cracks have been found in these brackets on various PA-36 models, and if they fail, the engine could detach in flight. This directive expands a previous safety notice to cover all PA-36 models—not just some—after cracks were discovered on aircraft that weren't in the original target group.
