Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This is a mandatory safety order (an Airworthiness Directive) for owners of Piper PA-34 Seneca aircraft. It requires mechanics to inspect a specific part—the nose gear hydraulic actuator mount assembly—which is the bracket that holds the hydraulic system for the front landing gear.

Why this matters: Several aircraft suffered nose gear collapses when this aluminium bracket cracked or failed.

What must be done:

The inspection: Visually check for cracks or damage where the actuator link bracket attaches to the mount
When: Within 100 flight hours after 29 February 1996, and then again at every regular safety check (maintenance release inspection) until the part is replaced
The fix: Replace the faulty aluminium assembly with a manufacturer-supplied steel version

Who is affected: Anyone operating a Piper PA-34 with specific part numbers (95724-000 or 95724-002) installed, or any locally manufactured equivalent of this bracket.

AD/PA-34/47 Nose Gear Hydraulic Actuator Mount Assembly 3/96

Applicability: All Model PA-34 aircraft with a nose gear hydraulic actuator aluminium alloy mount assembly, part number 95724-000 or 95724-002 installed, or any locally manufactured assembly.

Requirement: Visually inspect the nose gear hydraulic actuator mount assembly in the area where the nose gear hydraulic actuator link bracket attaches; for cracking or other damage.

Compliance: Within 100 hours time in service after 29 February 1996, and thereafter at each inspection for maintenance release issue; until a manufacturer supplied steel type mount assembly is installed.

Background: Several recent local reports of nose gear collapse have been received. An investigation revealed that failure of the gear actuator mount bracket had caused the collapse.
