Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive orders owners and operators of specific Piper PA-34 Seneca aircraft to inspect and potentially replace critical bearings in their engine control systems.

Who is affected: Owners of Piper PA-34 models PA34-200 (serial numbers 34-7250001 to 34-7450220) and PA34-200T (serial numbers 34-7570001 to 34-7770163).

What must be done:

Inspect the rod end bearings (small mechanical joints) attached to the mixture, throttle, and propeller governor control cables
If any bearing matches "type 1" shown in the referenced illustration, replace it with either "type 2" or "type 3"

Deadline: Within 25 hours of flight time after 22 November 1977.

Why it matters: Faulty rod end bearings could cause the control cables to fail, potentially leading to loss of throttle control, propeller control, or fuel mixture adjustment—creating serious flight safety risks.
