Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it does: This directive orders owners and operators of specific Piper Cherokee Six aircraft to inspect the airframe for structural damage near the window curtain rods.

Who it affects: Owners of Piper models PA-32-260, PA-32-300, PA-32R-300, PA-32RT-300, and PA-32RT-300T with serial numbers listed in Piper Service Bulletin No. 656.

What must be done: Inspect the fuselage longerons (the structural beams running along the bottom of the windows) for damage. This inspection must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 30 November 1979.

Why it matters: During original manufacture, workers may have accidentally damaged the aircraft's structural beams while installing interior curtain rods. This damage could weaken the airframe over time, potentially creating a safety risk if not detected and repaired.
