Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) requiring a specific repair to certain Piper aircraft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Piper PA-32RT-300T aeroplanes with specific serial numbers listed in Piper Service Bulletin No. 655 (a technical notice from the manufacturer).

What you must do: Modify the fuselage firewall (the protective metal wall between the engine and the passenger cabin) according to the instructions in Piper Service Bulletin No. 655.

When: Complete the work within 100 hours of flight time after 30 November 1979.

Why this matters: The manufacturer discovered that cracks can develop in the firewall near the baggage door corner. This could weaken the aircraft's structure and potentially allow fire or fumes to enter the cabin. The directive ensures this safety defect is fixed before it becomes dangerous.
