AD/PA-32/61 - Stabilator Skin - Inspection - CANCELLED

What this does: This document officially cancels an old aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that required owners of specific light aircraft to inspect their tail sections for cracks.

Who is affected: Owners and operators of Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six aeroplanes.

The cancelled rule: Previously, owners had to perform a one-time inspection of the stabilator skin (the movable surface on the tail that controls the plane's up-and-down movement) to check for cracking. This had to be done within 25 flying hours after June 1979.

What changes: As of 25 September 2008, this inspection is no longer legally required. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has determined this safety check is no longer necessary.

Why it matters: If you own one of these aircraft, you no longer need to perform this specific inspection to keep your plane legally airworthy, though general maintenance rules still apply.
