The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has cancelled Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-32/55, which previously mandated that owners of Piper PA-32 (Cherokee Six) aircraft install a drain hole in the engine cowling (the removable cover over the engine).

What this means:

Previously: Aircraft owners were required to modify their engine cowlings to include a drain hole according to Piper Service Bulletin No. 580, allowing fluids to escape and preventing corrosion or fire hazards. This had to be completed by February 1978 or within 100 flight hours thereafter.
Now: This requirement no longer applies as of 25 September 2008. Owners and operators of these aircraft are no longer legally required to comply with this specific modification.

This cancellation removes a regulatory burden from aircraft operators.
