AD/PA-32/31 - Automatic Pilot Servo Roll Shear Pin - Installation - CANCELLED

What this is: This document cancels a previous aviation safety rule (Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-32/31) that applied to owners of Piper PA-32 (Cherokee Six) aircraft.

What it did previously: The original rule required a one-time mechanical modification to the aircraft's autopilot system—specifically installing a new shear pin for the roll servo—according to manufacturer instructions (Piper Service Letter No. 695 or Edo-Aire Mitchell Service Letter ML38). This had to be done within 200 hours of flying time after September 1974.

What happens now: As of 25 September 2008, aircraft owners no longer need to comply with this modification requirement. The safety issue that prompted the original rule is no longer considered a risk, so the directive has been scrapped entirely.

Who is affected: Owners and operators of Piper PA-32 series aircraft who were previously required to track compliance with this autopilot modification.
