Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This is a safety order (legally called an Airworthiness Directive) that mandates an inspection of critical engine hoses on specific Piper aircraft.

Who it affects Owners and operators of Piper PA-31, PA-31-325, and PA-31-350 aircraft with specific serial numbers (particularly those with air conditioning installed).

What it requires The oil and manifold pressure tubes — hoses that carry oil and engine pressure readings to cockpit instruments — must be inspected within 100 flight hours (hours the aircraft is operating) after 31 March 1981. The inspection must follow the procedures in Piper Service Bulletin 643A.

Why it matters Faulty tubes can cause engine damage or misleading instrument readings, creating serious flight safety risks. This updated version expands the original order to cover additional aircraft identified by extended serial number ranges.
