AD/PA-31/71 Amdt 1 - Forward Baggage Door Locking System - Inspection and Modification - CANCELLED

What this does: This document officially removes an outdated aviation safety requirement. It cancels Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-31/71, which previously required owners of Piper PA-31 aircraft to inspect and modify the forward baggage door locking system.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Piper PA-31 series aeroplanes (commonly known as Navajo aircraft). However, since the original rule required compliance within 100 hours of flying time after August 1979, all affected planes would have made these changes decades ago.

Why it matters: The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is tidying up the rulebook by removing requirements that are no longer needed. The original directive mandated a one-time inspection and modification of the baggage door lock according to manufacturer service bulletin 604A. Because every affected aircraft has long since complied, the rule has been cancelled effective 31 July 2008, reducing unnecessary regulatory paperwork.
