Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it is: This directive orders owners of specific Piper PA-31 aircraft to install new airspeed limitation placards in the cockpit.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of:

Piper PA-31P aircraft with serial numbers 31P-1 through 31P-7630007
Piper PA-31-325 aircraft with serial numbers 31-7400990 through 31-7612110

What you must do: Install an airspeed placard that clearly displays speed limits in knots (nautical miles per hour). You must follow either Piper Service Bulletin No. 478 or No. 544.

When: Complete the work within 100 hours of flight time after 31 May 1976 (if using Bulletin 478) or after 31 May 1977 (if using Bulletin 544).

Why it matters: Accurate airspeed placards prevent pilots from exceeding safe speeds, which could damage the aircraft or cause loss of control. This ensures pilots have clear speed limits displayed in the standard aviation unit of measurement.
