AD/PA-31/34 - Bonding Parts - Modification - CANCELLED

What this does: This document officially cancels (repeals) an old aviation safety rule called Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-31/34.

What the old rule required: The original directive required owners of Piper PA-31 series aircraft to make a one-time modification. This modification created a way to bond (electrically connect) refuelling equipment to the aircraft during refuelling to prevent sparks from static electricity.

Why it's being cancelled:

• The modification had to be completed before January 1975 (over 30 years ago)
• The requirement wasn't based on official instructions from the aircraft manufacturer (Piper)
• Since all affected aircraft should have already been modified decades ago, and the rule wasn't manufacturer-recommended, it no longer needs to be legally mandated

Who this affects: Owners and operators of Piper PA-31 aircraft. Practically, this removes an old obligation rather than adding a new requirement.

When it takes effect: The cancellation happened on 31 July 2008.
