What this document does

This officially cancels a previous aviation safety rule (Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-31/12) that applied to Piper PA-31 series aircraft.

Background The original rule required a one-time inspection and modification of the engine control system, to be completed within 100 hours of flight time after June 1970, following guidelines in Piper Service Letter No. 548.

Why it matters Because all affected aircraft have now been modified, the safety requirement is obsolete. This document removes the legal obligation, effective 31 July 2008.

Who it affects Owners and operators of Piper PA-31 series aeroplanes. Note: They have already complied with the original requirement, so this simply cleans up the rulebook.
