Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive requires owners/operators of specified Piper PA‑31 series (Navajo/Cheyenne) aircraft with listed serial numbers to have their elevator hinge assemblies inspected for forging defects per Piper Service Bulletin No. 826A within 25 flight hours after 17 Oct 1986. It expands the original applicability to additional serial numbers. The inspection aims to detect cracks that could cause complete hinge failure and loss of pitch control, preventing potential crashes.
