AD/PA-30/18 - Bonding Points - Installation - CANCELLED

This document cancels an old aircraft safety rule.

This instrument formally scraps a 1972 requirement that applied to Piper PA-30 and PA-39 Twin Comanche aeroplanes.

What the cancelled rule required: Owners had to install electrical bonding points (metal connections that safely dissipate static electricity to prevent sparks) at:

• Every fuel filling point, and
• On the nose gear leg or both main landing gear legs

Why it matters: The Civil Aviation Safety Authority determined this specific Australian requirement is no longer necessary for safety. Unlike most maintenance rules, this one was not based on the plane manufacturer's guidelines. This cancellation means owners and operators of these aircraft no longer need to install or maintain these specific bonding points to comply with this directive.
