AD/PA-30/17 Amdt 1 - Electrical Power Indicators - Modification - CANCELLED

This document scraps an old aircraft safety rule.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has formally cancelled Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/PA-30/17, a technical requirement that had been in place since 1972.

What was the old rule? The cancelled directive required owners of Piper PA-30 and PA-39 Twin Comanche aeroplanes to install an ammeter (an electrical current gauge) in each generator feeder line. This was a unique Australian requirement that was not based on the aircraft manufacturer's official service bulletins.

Why is it being cancelled? CASA determined this specific electrical modification is no longer necessary for flight safety. The cancellation took effect on 18 December 2008.

Who does this affect? Owners, operators and maintenance engineers of Piper PA-30 and PA-39 aircraft. They are no longer legally required to install or maintain the specific ammeter configuration mandated by the 1972 directive.
