Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this law does: This Airworthiness Directive (AD) mandates a safety fix for the nose landing gear on specific Piper Arrow aircraft models.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of:

Piper PA-28R-201 aircraft (serial numbers 28R-7737001 to 28R-7737137)
Piper PA-28R-201T aircraft (serial numbers 28R-7703001 to 28R-7803285)

What must be done: The aircraft's nose landing gear down lock (the mechanism that secures the front wheel in the "down and locked" position for landing) must be either modified or replaced according to the instructions in Piper Service Bulletin No. 578B.

Deadline: The work had to be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 31 December 1978.

Why it matters: This directive addresses a specific safety defect to prevent potential landing gear failures, which could cause the nose wheel to collapse during landing or ground operations.
