This document officially cancels a previous aviation safety rule affecting Piper PA-28 series aircraft (light planes such as the Cherokee Warrior and Archer).

What it used to require Previously, Airworthiness Directive (AD) No. 61 mandated a one-time inspection and modification of the fuel drain located in the lower engine cowling. Owners had to complete this work within 100 hours of flight time after May 1977, following the manufacturer's guidelines (Piper Service Letter No. 796).

What changed As of 25 September 2008, this requirement is abolished. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has determined the modification is no longer necessary for flight safety, so owners no longer need to comply.

Who is affected Owners and operators of Piper PA-28 aircraft are no longer required to perform this specific inspection or maintain records proving compliance with this directive.
