Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: Requires a one-time safety inspection of the bolts that attach the stabilator (the moveable tail surface that controls the aircraft's up-and-down pitch) to the airframe on specific Piper Cherokee aircraft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific Piper PA-28 models with the following serial numbers:

PA-28-140: S/Nos. 28-7225001 to 28-7225240
PA-28-280: S/Nos. 28-7205001 to 28-7205225
PA-28-235: S/Nos. 28-7210001 to 28-7210018
PA-28R-200: S/Nos. 28R-7235001 to 28R-7235125

What you must do: Inspect the stabilator hinge attaching bolts following the procedures in Piper Service Bulletin No. 350.

When: Before flying the aircraft again after 24 May 1972.

Why it matters: Faulty or loose stabilator bolts could cause the tail control surface to detach or jam, leading to catastrophic loss of aircraft control.
