Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This is a mandatory safety instruction (called an Airworthiness Directive) that requires owners and operators of specific Piper PA-24 Comanche aircraft to inspect their landing gear and flap assemblies for defects.

Who this affects:

Owners and operators of Piper PA-24-180, PA-24-250, PA-24-260, and PA-24-400 model aircraft
Only applies to aircraft with serial numbers 24-1 through 24-5047, or 26-2 through 26-148

What you must do:

Carry out an inspection of the landing gear and flap assemblies following the technical procedures in Piper Service Letter No. 650, Addendum 1
Complete this inspection within 100 hours of flight time (measured from when the aircraft is in service) after 31 December 1973

Why this matters: This directive addresses potential safety defects in these specific aircraft components. It is legally enforceable—operators cannot fly these aircraft beyond the compliance deadline without completing the required inspection.
