Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) for owners and operators of specific Piper PA-24 Comanche aeroplanes.

Who it affects: Only aircraft with serial numbers 24-1 through 24-102 (the first 102 aircraft built). If your Comanche has a different serial number, this doesn't apply to you.

What you must do: Install insulation around the battery cables inside the battery box. This prevents the cables from touching metal parts and causing electrical faults or fires.

How to do it: Follow the instructions in Piper Service Bulletin No. 164, paragraph 11 (this is the manufacturer's official repair guide).

When: Immediately. The word "forthwith" means you must ground the aircraft or complete this fix before the next flight — there is no grace period.
