AD/PA-23/80 - Fuel Line and Electrical Harness - Inspection - CANCELLED

This scraps an old aircraft safety rule.

This document cancels a previous requirement that forced owners of Piper PA-23 Apache and Aztec aeroplanes to inspect their fuel lines and electrical wiring.

What it used to require:

• A one-off inspection of fuel lines and electrical harnesses
• Had to be done within 100 hours of flying time after December 1979
• Followed the manufacturer's Service Bulletin No. 663

What it means now: As of 12 February 2009, you no longer need to do this inspection. The rule is dead. If you own one of these aircraft, you can ignore the previous directive.

Why the change? The regulator decided this specific Australian inspection requirement was no longer necessary—likely because the aircraft are now so old that other maintenance rules cover the risks, or the manufacturing defect has been addressed through other means.
