AD/PA-23/77 Amdt 1 - Forward Baggage Door Locking System - Inspection and Modification - CANCELLED

This aviation safety rule has been cancelled and no longer applies.

This document formally cancels Airworthiness Directive AD/PA-23/77 Amdt 1, which previously required owners of Piper PA-23 Apache and Aztec aircraft to inspect and modify the forward baggage door locking system.

What it used to require:

• A one-time inspection and modification of the baggage door lock
• Had to be done within 100 hours of flying time after August 1979
• Followed specific manufacturer instructions (Piper Service Bulletin No. 604A)

Current status (as of 12 February 2009):

• Completely cancelled — aircraft owners no longer need to comply with this requirement
• The Civil Aviation Safety Authority determined this safety directive was no longer necessary

This cancellation removes an outdated maintenance obligation for these specific twin-engine aircraft.
