Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) requiring owners and operators of specific Piper Apache and Aztec aircraft to inspect and modify the forward baggage door locking system.

Who it affects: Owners of Piper PA-23-250 model aircraft with serial numbers between 27-2000 and 27-7954032. If your plane was already fixed under the manufacturer's old Service Bulletin 604, you still need to comply with this updated requirement (Service Bulletin 604A).

What you must do:

Inspect and modify the front baggage door lock according to Piper Service Bulletin No. 604A
Complete this work within 100 hours of flight time after 31 August 1979

Why it matters: Baggage door failures in flight can create serious safety hazards, including damage to the aircraft structure or injury to people on the ground. This directive ensures the locking mechanism meets updated safety standards.
