AD/PA-23/71 - Emergency Gear Extension System - Inspection - CANCELLED

What this is: This document cancels a previous aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that applied to specific Piper aircraft models.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Piper PA-23 Apache and Aztec series aeroplanes.

What it used to require: The original rule required these aircraft to have their emergency landing gear extension systems inspected within 100 flying hours after July 1977, following specific manufacturer guidelines (Piper Service Bulletin No. 564).

What it does now: As of 12 February 2009, this inspection requirement is cancelled and no longer applies. Aircraft owners do not need to comply with this particular safety directive anymore.

Why this matters: This removes a compliance burden for operators of these older aircraft, as the safety authority determined the inspection was no longer necessary.
