Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety instruction (called an Airworthiness Directive) requiring specific Piper Apache and Aztec aircraft owners to inspect or fix a problem with the throttle control shaft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Piper PA-23-250 model aircraft with serial numbers between 27-7305074 and 27-7405460 (normally aspirated engines only).

What you must do: Follow the instructions in Piper Service Bulletin No. 451 regarding the throttle control shaft. This typically involves inspecting for wear, cracks, or improper installation that could cause the throttle to fail in flight.

When: You must complete this work within 100 hours of flying time after 30 April 1975.

Why it matters: A faulty throttle control shaft could cause the engine power to become stuck or uncontrollable during flight, creating a serious safety risk.
