Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: An air safety directive for owners and operators of Piper PA-23-250 aircraft (part of the Apache and Aztec series).

What it requires: You must inspect a specific structural component — the inboard end of the lower flange of the front spar (part number 16010) — for cracks.

Why it matters: Cracks in the spar (the main structural beam that supports the wing) could lead to wing failure and catastrophic accidents. This rule prevents that by catching damage early before it causes structural failure.

When to do it: Every 100 hours of flight time (called "time in service") starting from 9 December 1970.

Who it affects: Anyone operating the PA-23-250 model aircraft — typically private owners, flying schools, and charter operators using these twin-engine planes.
