Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

Owners/operators of certain Piper PA-22 (Tri-Pacer/Colt) fitted with Lycoming O-320 engines and Marvel‑Schebler MA‑4SPA carburettors must place (or self‑make) a cockpit placard reading “DO NOT OPEN THROTTLE RAPIDLY - IDLE TO FULL THROTTLE IN 2 SECONDS MINIMUM,” or instead comply with FAA AD 73‑9‑6. The measure, required within 10 hours TIS after 9 May 1973, aims to change pilot throttle behaviour to reduce a safety risk.
