AD/PA-22/22 - Rudder Pedals - Modification - CANCELLED

This document scraps an outdated aircraft safety rule.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has cancelled an old safety directive that required owners of Piper PA-22 aircraft (Tri-Pacer and Colt models) to modify their rudder pedals.

What the old rule did:

• Issued in 1964, the directive required a one-time modification to the inboard rudder pedals on these specific light aircraft.

Why it's being cancelled:

• After 44 years, CASA assumes all affected aircraft have already been modified.
• The directive was not based on manufacturer service bulletins or US safety directives, meaning it was a unique Australian requirement that has now been satisfied across the fleet.

What this means for aircraft owners:

• No action required. The cancellation took effect on 3 July 2008.
• If your aircraft still has the old rudder pedals (unlikely), there is no longer a legal requirement to change them under this specific rule.
