What it does: Requires a physical safety modification to the rudder pedals on Piper PA-22 aircraft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer and Colt aeroplanes (all models).

The requirement: The inner rudder pedals must be modified so a pilot's foot cannot accidentally touch the inner pedal on the opposite side. This prevents unintended rudder inputs that could cause loss of control. You can satisfy this requirement by following Commerce International Drawing 01D-801-1 (an "acceptable means of compliance" means one approved way to meet the standard).

Compliance deadline: Before 30 April 1964.

Why it matters: Prevents accidents caused by pilots inadvertently contacting the wrong rudder pedal during flight operations.

AD/PA-22/22 Rudder Pedals - Modification 3/64

Applicability: All models.

Requirement: 1. Modify the inboard rudder pedals so that the pilot’s foot cannot inadvertently contact the inner pedal of the opposite set of rudder pedals.

The installation covered by Commerce International Drawing 01D-801-1 is an acceptable means of compliance.

Compliance: Before 30 April 1964.
