AD/PA-22/21 - Landing Gear Fairing - Modification - CANCELLED

This document cancels an outdated aircraft safety rule that required owners of Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer and Colt aeroplanes to modify the fabric covers (fairings) on their main landing gear.

What the old rule required Since 1963, Airworthiness Directive (AD) PA-22/21 mandated a one-time modification to the fabric fairing on the main landing gear of these specific Piper aircraft.

Why it was cancelled The Civil Aviation Safety Authority cancelled this directive on 3 July 2008 because it had been in force for 45 years. By that time, every affected aircraft still in operation would have already completed the required modification. Keeping the rule served no practical purpose.

What this means for aircraft owners If you own a Piper PA-22 series aircraft, you no longer need to check or comply with this specific directive. The cancellation removes a redundant compliance obligation without imposing any new requirements.
